HISTORIC OVERVIEW OF THE JRA / JIV
The early growth of Jongensfontein pre-1960 was haphazard and unplanned.
In 1960 the Cape Provincial Administration became aware of the arbitrary manner in which the town had grown when 38 owners of ground and houses attempted to have their ownership registered. The Administration decided that the establishment of a Township was the only way in which order could be achieved thereby allowing owners registration of title.

In 1962 the Divisional Council of Riversdale submitted an application for Township establishment and, eventually, in 1968 the Administrator granted approval for the establishment of the Township of Jongensfontein and the Deed of Transfer of the new Township was issued in 1970.
The Jongensfontein Property Owners Association (later known as Stand Owners Association) was formed as a lobby group during this prolonged process and eventually, post 1977, assumed its current name of JONGENSFONTEIN RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION.

THE RONDAVEL LIBRARY
The oldest, and also the smallest, building in Jongensfontein, is estimated to have been constructed around 1932. Owners Giepie en Minnie Joubert, a family from the Riversdale farming community, used it as their holiday home.
