Die Lanternloop is 'n herdenking van die lewe van Dina Smit (voormalige omroeper en nuusleser by RSG) en dien ook die doel om fondse in te samel vir die instandhouding van ons pragtige Jongensfontein.

HOW IT STARTED
The Smit family used to vacation in Jongensfontein since 1984 and the little town had crawled deep into their hearts.
Diena and one of her daughters, Natasha, shared the dream of organising a Lanternloop in Jongensfontein once Diena would have retired there. Unfortunately she passed away from cancer on 20 November 2014, before they could make it happen.
To honour and celebrate her mom's life, Natasha decided to make the dream of an annual Lanternloop come true
WHERE AND WHEN:
Join us at the MAIN BEACH as from 8:30pm, the event starting at 9pm. If you travel by car, come a bit earlier in order to find a parking spot. We encourage visitors to co-drive since parking spaces are limited.
The event is entirely FREE OF CHARGE. We would however appreciate it if you would support us by BUYING A LANTERN. The funds raised will be used for the maintenance and upgrade of Jongensfontein.
Lanterns are available for purchase on site from 10am. You are also welcome to bring along lanterns previously purchased.
The band that accompanies the march will be collecting donations, so do bring along a little extra to TIP THE BAND.

COME PREPARED:
Make sure that you are dressed comfortably and are wearing appropriate walking shoes. The walk will follow a circular route of about 2km including Hoofweg and Strand Street. Regular stops are observed to salute holiday makers on their balconies and also to maintain a pace that takes into consideration our oldest and youngest walkers.
